New York’s largest punk rock music festival, Punk Island, have begun announcing this year’s band list. In addition to an endless variety of national acts including groups like RVIVR, this year’s lineup will include Kansas City’s own American Dischord as the sole contingency from the Kansas City area.
This will be the band’s first appearance at the famous festival, and concludes over a year of almost non-stop touring that brought the band through every time zone in the U.S. “I couldn’t be more excited,” says vocalist/guitarist Tyler Temple, “after participating as an audience member in previous years, it’s almost surreal to be asked to play with so many awesome bands!”
The festival aims to “support a philosophy of creativity, rebellion, and work to feed those who are hungry for a world where passion is valued over profit.” Punk Island’s efforts culminate annually as a free, all ages Music Festival, and is funded by the non-profit Make Music New York. Last year saw over 10,000 people in attendance. The festival takes place every June on Governor’s Island in the heart of New York City.
To celebrate the announcement, American Dischord is offering their entire album ‘Songs For Sinners’ for free on their new website at www.americandischordkc.com along with a handful of other giveaways. They are also currently putting the finishing touches on a new 7” split with OC45 (Boston, MA) and Burn Burn Burn (Seattle, WA) due out this summer.
The band will be performing at this year’s Punk Island Music Festival, June 19th in New York City.
